HJosh Doig, a left back for ellas Verona, is reportedly close to joining Rangers this month,

accordinghttps://dailysportnews.co.uk to sources who spoke to Football Insider.

It is thought that the Gers prioritized a left-back in January and are keen to add a player who can start right away to strengthen this position.

Football Insider was informed by sources that Philippe Clement’s team has been keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old Scotsman while he is in Serie A.

The club could have already opened preliminary talks over a deal for Doig and had been hopeful progress can be made over the next week.

Doig reportedly has interest from a host of clubs across Europe,

including Marseille, Torino and Udinese, but Rangers remain in the picture to secure his services.

It is believed that Marseille have agreed terms with the Scotsman in what is a major blow to Rangers’ hopes of a deal.

He has made 13 appearances for the Italian club this season and has been positioned at both left-back and left-midfield by manager Marco Baroni.

Hellas Verona paid a reported £3million to Hibernian in the summer of 2022 after he made 78 appearances at Easter Road.

The futures of the Gers’ current left-back options,

Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic,

remain uncertain which has motivated the club to be active this month.

As revealed by Football Insider (10 January),

Hellas Verona are making progress on a move for Yilmaz with both loan and permanent moves possible.

Barisic, who is reportedly garnering a lot of interest across Europe,

has entered the last six months of his deal at Ibrox.

Rangers remain in second place in the league and sit eight points behind Celtic with two games in hand.

They next face Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup after the winter break on 20 January.
