Las Vegas Raiders risk losing Antonio Pierce as he is set to interview with AFC team

Las Vegas Raiders might lose their players’ choice to be the team’s new head coach, if not careful.

The Raiders interim coach Antonio Pierce will be interviewed by the Tennessee Titans this week,

according to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on Friday morning.

Josh McDaniels was fired by the Raiders during the season,

and Pierce assumed leadership of the team.

Under Pierce’s leadership,

Las Vegas experienced an instant turnaround,

winning 5-4 in the second half and significantly strengthening their defence.

The Raiders let up 23.5 points per game under McDaniels, but only 16 points per game.

That second-half schedule saw the Raiders play a lot of tough offences,

including Kansas City twice, Miami and Indianapolis.

Under McDaniels, the team would have finished the season ranked 25th in the NFL with 23.5 points per game.

Under Pierce, the team’s 16 points allowed per game would have been the best in the NFL.

Wide receiver DaVante Adams is one of the Raiders players who has openly supported Pierce’s hire.

Raiders players and supporters should be concerned that it hasn’t happened yet

and that he’s now looking at options outside of Las Vegas.

Especially considering that owner Mark Davis has a history of making dubious decisions in recent years.

When Rich Bisaccia replaced Jon Gruden as interim coach in 2021,

he saw him guide the Raiders to a 7-5 record and the postseason.

He made the now-famous decision to employ Josh McDaniels

as his full-time coach rather than giving Bisaccia a chance.

The Titans have opened the position of head coach after deciding earlier this week to part ways with Mike Vrabel.

It’s difficult to find a good head coach.

With the way Pierce concluded the season,

the Raiders may have struck it lucky.

They just cannot continue to make the same error they did two years prior and deny responsibility.
