A ‘ambitious move’ is being planned by Rangers for a midfield player valued at £5.5 million.
According to sources, Rangers are preparing a “ambitious” move for Oscar Zambrano, an Ecuador international midfielder. The 19-year-old athlete is regarded as the future star of his nation and has drawn comparisons to Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo.
He has started every game for LDU Quito, which currently leads the table, and was a standout performer at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup last year.
Due to injuries sustained by Nicolas Raskin, Ryan Jack, and fellow Ecuadorian Jose Cifuentes over the past three
months, Clement has been forced to employ defender Dijon Sterling in the middle of the pitch, leaving the Ibrox club
with little options in the engine room.
Though it’s believed that English Premier League team AFC Bournemouth is currently leading the race for the South
American, Zambrano’s rising reputation has drawn interest from a number of clubs in the January transfer window,
including both Rangers and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Reported valuation of £5.5 million
With a reported valuation of £5.5 million, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Luton Town, and Brighton & Hove Albion
have all kept an eye on the player as the race to sign him intensifies. The Cherries, led by Andoni Iraola, are
purportedly the most optimistic about their ability to persuade the player that the South Coast is where his future
lies.
But, a noteworthy new development might make room for the Gers, and Clement might take advantage after it was
reported that the Cherries are hesitating on the agreement.
It is believed that the dispute relates to the amount Zambrano would be entitled to from the arrangement. The
player’s team believes they are entitled to 15% of the transaction, and Rangers may be able to pursue a deal during
this window if both parties are ready to spend the £5.5 million necessary to bring the player to England.
