Jamaal Williams was given the ball late in Sunday’s 48-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, and since then,

backup quarterback Jameis Winston of the New Orleans Saints has drawn both acclaim and condemnation.

Many of Winston’s teammates publicly endorsed the Florida State product,

despite analysts and experts finding grounds to criticise Winston for his choice to pass the ball in victory shape rather than taking a knee.

Giving Williams a chance to score his lone touchdown of the season was a “collective decision” made by Winston and the offensive line,

which infuriated Falcons coach Arthur Smith and led to a heated altercation with Saints coach Dennis Allen.

After the touchdown, Allen expressed regret, saying, “That’s not who we are.” We don’t work like that.

Many Saints supporters have criticised Allen for his apology and praised Winston.
