Luke Getsy’s work as offensive coordinator may have given the Bears the opportunity to generate yards on the ground.

But in the current NFL, it didn’t translate into victories,

and coach Matt Eberflus, who was more of a traditionalist, recognised this.

After observing the lack of passing and scoring,

Eberflus took the only action he could think of and dismissed offensive coordinator Luke Getsy,

running backs coach Omar Young, assistant tight ends coach Tim Zetts,

quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, and receivers coach Tyke Tolbert.

“I think when you’re running an organisation, a team, a football team and you’re the head of that,

you’ve got to make tough decisions, and those tough decisions were made,

and we feel it’s in the best interest for the Bears to do that,” Eberflus stated.

The Bears were first in running the previous season and second this one,

but they were last in passing in 2022 (32nd) and 28th in 2023.

“Yeah, just the growth and development of the offence to me needed to be better than what it was,

” stated Eberflus. “That’s one part of it, the passing game, in my opinion, and that’s where it is.

“We’ve made the decision to let that go. And once more, I made that choice.

We decided that this morning after obviously consulting with Ryan Poles, George McCaskey, and Kevin Warren.”

Thus, they continue their search for a new coordinator in the final year of Eberflus’ contract.

Because of the lack of security, coordinator candidates and assistants may not exactly want to be in such settings.

Although coordinator candidates would be drawn to an extended term because

they would perceive it as a more secure scenario,

team president Kevin Warren stated that there is currently no strategy to secure Eberflus a contract extension.

“I don’t think we’ll have a problem at all getting world class candidates,

not only from an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach standpoint and

a defensive coordinator standpoint, this is a job that people are excited about to

come here and we have a lot of talent,”

Warren stated. “It’s always exciting to join an organisation

when you’re on the upswing to be able to help take it to the top.”

According to Poles, calls are already coming in from parties who are interested in the situation.

Warren remarked, “They adore the talent we possess.”

“They adore the draft capital we must have access to.

They adore the salary cap we have like the ownership’s stability spanning more than a century.

“The perception of what people think about the Chicago Bears,

this is a very, very unique opportunity.”

Since Alan Williams resigned in Week 3, they haven’t had a defensive coordinator,

so that role is included. Eberflus stated that although he is unsure if he will

continue to call defensive plays as he did the previous season, a coordinator is still needed.

Regarding the offensive coordinator position, they are seeking applicants

that possess both the ability to make sound game plans and the ability to adjust as the game go along.

“I think you have to have identity for sure but you also have to be able to adjust,

” Eberflus stated. “You need to be able to support yourself. One of them is running the football,

and another is, in my opinion, being flexible and adaptive.

“Obviously, getting the explosives is how you gain points;

I believe this was the question’s point of reference.

That’s how points are earned, and once more, that’s how we have to keep growing.”

Poles questions whether the fact that Eberflus is in a year

where victory is imperative will be significant to the appropriate OC or DC.

“I think they’re gonna look at the roster and see there is a lot of young,

talented players on the roster that they really want to work with,” Poles said.

It will strengthen that foundation and make our team a championship-caliber one.

And a lot of very amazing things happen to everyone when you win championships.
