The 26-year-old forward, who cost £3.5 million to acquire from Serie A team Atalanta in the summer, has had a

terrible six months in Glasgow.

The Italians must be smiling all the way to the bank for recovering such a price from Ibrox for the stuttering

frontman after seeing him toil away on loan for the last few seasons.

Pound for pound, Sam Lammers has been one of the worst transfers in recent memory, having scored only twice in

31 appearances for the team. Now, the striker is off to Utrecht in an attempt to revive his career.

Though there has been some speculation about a possible option to purchase in the Sam Lammers transaction, it doesn’t seem like Utrecht has an option on the Rangers forward.

That doesn’t mean Rangers hasn’t set a price yet; club insider Heart & Hand disclosed that the Gers are seeking £2.5 million for the Dutch forward.

According to reports earlier in the day, FC Utrecht would only have £1.5 million to spend if they were to sign Sam Lammers on a permanent basis.

“Hopefully today, Sam Lammers will finish his loan move to FC Utrecht in Holland,” host David Edgar of H&H stated on the Daily Update (10/01) of the platform. He intends to stay there until the season’s conclusion.

“His contract does not have a buy clause. If Sam Lammers were to depart, I think Rangers would be asking for £2.5 million; Rangers, of course, paid £3.5 million for him.

“He will still have three years left on his contract at the end of the season. He signed a four-year contract with the team, and he will be free to play come summertime.

“I highly doubt FC Utrecht will be it. Their financial resources are limited.

If he does exceptionally well for them, they might be able to put something together in the summer.
“But I’m not sure about his pay or anything else, so I believe it’s more like he’s moving to a team where expectations are significantly lower than they are at Rangers.”

Utrecht’s action can restore forward’s standing.

Sam Lammers’ signing by Rangers can only be described as a calamity, given the stakes this season.

Given the forward’s first-team exposure this season and the Ibrox club’s financial commitment, the attacker cannot argue he wasn’t given a chance.

The former Rangers manager, who signed the now-fired Michael Beale, must have had some pride in himself to think he can bring out the best in the unconfident striker.

Following three loan stints at Eintracht Frankfurt, Sampdoria, and Empoli during a dismal time at Atalanta, the player’s horrifying goal return had supporters cringing in the summer before Lammers even joined the team.

After Sam Lammers’ brief stay in Glasgow confirmed those suspicions, the hitman is now moving to Utrecht in an effort to restart his profession.

Although all parties would prefer that Rangers simply write off their losses on the striker in January, it will be difficult to persuade anyone to part with £2.5 million as things are.

Thus, everyone will be watching to see if Sam Lammers makes an impression in the Netherlands and persuades someone to provide the funding come summertime.
