Though few actually do,

Everton and England’s officials don’t have the finest relationship in the world.

This nation’s officiating standards have been gradually dropping for years,

and the implementation of VAR has just made their mistakes worse.

It seems absurd that someone may be given multiple perspectives

while sitting in an office off the floor and still make so many inaccurate conclusions.

This has led to a great deal of anger due to the large number of improper verdicts.

To be exact, the fan advisory board of Everton recently wrote a letter to Howard Webb, the PGMOL’s head,

detailing their complaints and a list of the judgments they believe best bolster their position.

After the officials were appointed, things aren’t expected to get any better this weekend

when the Toffees play a high-achieving Aston Villa at Goodison Park.

According to the Premier League, Paul Tierney will handle VAR duties while David Coote will oversee the game.

With his past, the latter one could be problematic.

What is Paul Tierney’s past performance history?

While it seems like every Premier League referee has been involved in personal scandals throughout the years,

Tierney was the victim of a particularly combustible one back in May.

Jurgen Klopp’s persistent battle with Tierney,

the referee that day, tainted the spectacular 4-3 spectacle in

which Liverpool narrowly defeated Tottenham Hotspur.

Following a series of dubious decisions,

Diogo Jota’s winner in injury time caused the German to sprint in

the direction of the fourth official and celebrate in his face.

Even while this was a rather provocative gesture,

his post-match remarks were what really revealed his emotions.

“We have our story, history with Mr. Tierney,” he said, before receiving a two-match touchline ban.

I genuinely have no idea what this man is up to with us.

It is untrue that there is nothing, as they often claim.

Not possible. It just cannot be, I must declare. I find it incomprehensible.

I’m not sure if it’s me because of the way he looks at me; I’m not sure why.

Throughout his career, Tierney has officiated 15 Everton games in

the league and has never shied away from calling a card.

Crucially, though, he has never sent anyone off during those games,

which is where the current debate has its roots.

Sean Dyche hopes that Sunday’s peaceful day,

when the football takes center stage for a welcome change, will allow the referee,

who is serving as a video assistant, to enjoy himself.
