Celtic supporters were left perplexed when Japan’s manager, Hajime Moriyasu, revealed the reasons behind

Kyogo’s exclusion from the national team roster for the forthcoming Asian Cup. He cited intense competition

and the striker’s lack of a team mindset as the reasons he will stay in Glasgow.

Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate were chosen for the Japan squad despite having only recently recovered from

medium-term ailments; Kyogo, who has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances for the Hoops this season, was not

included despite being fully healthy the entire season.

Glasgow was concerned, and Celtic supporters were even more perplexed by the choice because Kyogo and

Maeda are in competition for the same striker position for the national team. Maeda is less productive than

Kyogo, who has been fitter for longer. However, Moriyasu has addressed the issue, asserting that Kyogo has not

fared as well as his teammates and rivals due to outside competition and a lack of mental toughness.
