Fenerbahce striker Michy Batshuayi would need to take a “monster” pay cut to seal a January move to Rangers,

according to the Daily Record.

The tabloid said on its website [January 10] that the Belgian international might settle on a short-term contract

that would keep him on the team until the end of the season at a reduced salary, after which he would negotiate a

new one.

It comes after Sacha Tavolieri revealed on X that Philippe Clement and the team had received an offer for

Batshuayi, who was making roughly £58,000 a week in Turkey.

No concrete move appears to have been made yet,

with Rangers likely weighing up their options at this moment.  With Abdallah Sima at AFCON, Cyriel Dessers on

standby for the same competition and Danilo injured, options

are very limited at Ibrox right now.

This returns us to the age-old football debate: do players want to play or do they want the money?

Since Batshuayi is at the pinnacle of his profession and doesn’t require the financial fulfillment that others would

be tempted to, he might benefit from lowering any expectations.

Given the constant possibility of winning trophies and winning in Europe at Ibrox, Clement is probably eager to

chat with his countryman. By cooperating, the explosive striker might return to his peak.

Being the main man is something that has escaped his clutches in recent years though, and that has to be the

biggest carrot of them all for Batshuayi.

Rangers are crying out for a new striker and they are not holding back it seems, with John Bennett in a position

now to pull off a real masterstroke for his manager.

This is one to watch, but many things will need to fall into place at Ibrox.
