Crucial meeting at Rangers today over ‘shock’ move – report

According to the Scottish Sun, Philippe Clement will hold “crucial” conversations with Michy Batshuayi on Wednesday,

January 10, in an attempt to convince the striker to join Rangers.

The tabloid claimed via their website late on January 9 that talks were anticipated within the next 24 hours

following the Ibrox manager’s proposal to bring in his fellow Belgian during the January window.

It’s believed that Clement wants to start the 30-year-old Fenerbahce forward before

the Light Blues depart for their winter training camp this week,

which is scheduled to take place in La Manga.

The former Chelsea player is free to depart the Turkish Super Lig team following

their inability to reach an agreement on a new deal in Istanbul.

Movement

Rangers would have achieved a great deal for Clement

if they could get an international striker in time for him to be included in

the team for the training camp before the winter break.

Despite adding Wolves striker Fabio Silva on loan,

he obviously needs assistance up front,

since Cyriel Dessers is the only healthy number nine at the moment.

The Nigerian has begun to make more of an effect as his Rangers career has progressed,

but he still appears uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, fellow summer recruit Sam Lammers is scheduled to move on loan because

his time in Glasgow has not at all gone as planned.

If Silva and Batshuayi had been offered,

most Gers fans, and probably the manager as well,

would have signed up while trying to find a buyer for Lammers prior to the market opening.

Therefore, it would be a positive if Clement could persuade the 53-cap Belgian.

Batshuayi has played for Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace, Beskitas,

and Fenerbahce over the last six years,

but the fact that he can’t seem to settle anyplace is concerning.

Though he might not be flawless,

he should be able to enhance the danger in front of goal at Rangers

after scoring eight goals this season as a backup option and twenty goals in all competitions last season.
