An In-Demand Belgian Star Is Apparently Targeted by The Rangers: Why Clement Needs To Close The Deal

Rangers has become a strong candidate to sign Michy Batshuayi during this January transfer window, if a recent claim from The Scottish Sun is to be trusted. However, Everton is considering a loan move for the Fenerbahce player,

as reported by a number of Turkish outlets, so they are not alone in the competition for him.

Famous Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has confirmed Rangers’ interest, but considering the increasing interest in

the Belgium international, she has not yet reached a decision.

The 30-year-old center forward rose through Standard Liege’s youth before securing a starting position for their

senior team. The Marseille scouts were pleased by his poaching qualities and paid £4.5 million to sign him in the

summer of 2014.

Following a number of successful seasons, Batshuayi became the first player signed by then manager Antonio Conte

at Stamford Bridge when he signed for £33.2 million to join Chelsea.

But because he was only given a part-time job, he mainly spent his time on loan at Besiktas, Crystal Palace, Valencia,

and Borussia Dortmund. Batshuayi is prepared to go again after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with

his present employers, despite having scored 28 goals in 52 games since joining Fener.

Why the Rangers Need to Get After It

After Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak left in the summer, Rangers signed Danilo and Cyriel Dessers. Dessers has

frequently come under fire for his lack of quickness and dexterity up top, but the team had to borrow

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Fabio Silva due to injuries to Danilo and Kemar Roofe.

Days after locking down the Portuguese teenager, Dessers was placed on standby by Nigeria for the forthcoming

African Cup of Nations competition. The Light Blues now have to reenter the transfer market due to the likely

absence of the Super Eagles star.

Batshuayi is a very experienced goal scorer with a track record of accomplishments.

Whether Philippe Clement uses his ties and relationships to entice his countryman and thereby solve the striker

dilemma in the “treble” search is yet to be seen.
