Sam Lammers’ contract with Rangers does not include an option to buy, despite FC Utrecht’s hopes to bring

him back to the Eredivisie today.

A total of four goals or assists from thirty-one appearances would be extremely unsatisfactory at any team. More so against a Rangers

club that, under highly regarded head coach Philippe Clement, has been producing an incredible run of results and is accustomed to

controlling possession, at least domestically.

The Gers team has improved in almost every area since Clement took Mick Beale’s spot in the dugout at Ibrox. The exception to this

norm is Sam Lammers, a £3.5 million summer acquisition from Atalanta who isn’t nearly as impressive as he was when he was the

man who was expected to rejoin him at Sunderland south of the border.

Lammers and the Black Cats have recently been connected. But by the end of the week, it’s expected that he’ll be a player for FC

Utrecht. By the end of the day, maybe even.

Sam Lammers set for imminent Rangers exit

According to De Telegraaf, Lammers is scheduled to arrive in the cathedral city and undergo a medical examination. Utrecht hopes to

finalize an agreement in the next few hours. The former attacker for PSV Eindhoven and Heerenveen will only sign a simple loan

agreement; his contract will not include an option or an obligation to buy.

This is due to Utrecht’s cap of approximately £1.5 million on acquisitions. Despite his lackluster performance in Glasgow, Rangers are

unwilling to give up a £2 million loss on a player who signed a contract just half a year ago.

In anticipation of a return to Ibrox next summer, Rangers may be hopeful that Lammers can find his scoring touch at Heerenveen in

2018–19 after being back in familiar surroundings. Instead, a club hoping to recover most, if not all, of their £3.5 million investment would up his asking price.
