Rangers’ human wrecking ball

A player known as a “human wrecking ball” is rumored to be interested in joining Rangers this month,

giving their offense extra firepower.

The Gers may now bolster their roster with players that Philippe Clement explicitly wants to fit his style of play for the first time,

therefore they will undoubtedly want to do some major business during the January transfer window.

Given the numerous reports connecting Rangers to reinforcements,

and the Ibrox outfit’s apparent desire for more finished goods based on their interest in Hearts top player Lawrence Shankland,

it would be surprising if no one else entered following Fabio Silva.

Young left-back Owen Beck of Liverpool is also being considered; he is anticipated to go out on loan once more following his successful return to Merseyside,

from Dundee earlier in the season. Another player that has been linked to a move to Ibrox is attacker Emmanuel Dennis of Nottingham Forest, should he get his desire.

Bringing in someone who can make a difference in that area appears to be Rangers’ main objective this month.

More offensive strength in the last third is crucial in the Scottish Premiership title battle.

The Daily Mail has an update stating that Rangers is interested in signing Leeds United’s Joe Gelhardt,

but they aren’t the only Scottish team expressing interest.

Rangers should be targeting Gelhardt in the January transfer window because he is a young striker who has been regarded highly for some time.

Although, the 21-year-old has only made six appearances in the Championship this season due to his struggles to get consistent playing time at Leeds,

Sky Sports commentator Jamie Redknapp has previously praised the player, saying:

“He has the body of a wrecking ball. I find him interesting; I like him.

He gets on the ball quickly, is combative, and challenges people.

He enjoys himself immensely once he’s inside the box, where he can do the greatest harm.”

The Leeds young player, who is seen as a creative focal point by coaches at the club, is more of a facilitator up front than a prolific number nine,

even if he is best used as an all-around striker.

During his time in Yorkshire, he provided some incredible assists.

In fact, in just 49 appearances for Leeds,

Gelhardt has already racked up 10 goal involvements (three goals and seven assists).

Additionally, in just 31 games for the Whites’ Under-21 squad,

he scored an astounding 20 goals and added another six assists.

The Englishman could feel that January is a good time to enjoy a fresh challenge, given his lack of minutes at Elland Road,

and he has the trickery and eye for goal to make a real impact at Rangers.

The threat of Celtic signing Gelhardt instead should act as a warning, too,

and where he ends up could ultimately have a big say on where the Scottish Premiership trophy ends up come the end of the season.
