Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson has predicted that if Rangers make a bid in January, they would buy Hearts attacker Lawrence Shankland before his old team.

Wilson said that although Celtic would be considering the striker, his loyalty would likely lie elsewhere because he

was a childhood Rangers supporter.

He continued by saying that Shankland would be a good fit at Ibrox since he is a pure goal scorer, which is exactly

what Philippe Clement has been missing since moving to Glasgow.

Wilson said, “I like Shankland, but I think his allegiances lie elsewhere,” in an interview with The National on January 8.

“I’m not sure if he matches Brendan’s desired style of play or Celtic’s model. A fantastic goal scorer, I believe he

would fit in well at Rangers.

Rangers need to finish this one.

When all is said and done, Clement’s team should not pass up Shankland during this January transfer window.

Given their dire need for a striker, it should be obvious to recruit the SPFL’s top scorer and a lifelong Gers supporter.

Naturally, the agreement must fit their budget, and Hearts, who won’t be prepared to let their hero leave lightly, will

determine how much they spend to acquire his signature. Still, the deal is too good to pass up.

Over the years, Shankland has been associated with a move to Ibrox on multiple occasions, and there have been hints

that his ship may have sailed. However, fire does not exist in the absence of smoke, so the Rangers need to make sure they finish this.

Fabio Silva’s arrival hasn’t stopped Clement from trying to bolster his team’s offensive capabilities. The summer

transfer window left them without a reliable goal scorer, with Danilo’s constant injuries and Cyriel Dessers being a

recurrent letdown.
