Jordan Street Transfer News January 9, 2024

Man United and Everton have begun negotiations on the potential acquisition of midfielder Amadou Onana.

We are currently in the midst of a very important January transfer window for Manchester United Football Club.

With fewer games scheduled after the Reds’ European withdrawal, Erik ten Hag will be eager to get rid of some

dead wood.

Football Transfers has been informed by sources that Ten Hag desired Onana in the summer but was forced to

settle for Sofyan Amrabat because of financial constraints.

Additionally, they assert that the funds are sufficient to sign one “significant” player in January and that the

remaining signings would be loan agreements.

Ten Hag appreciates Onana’s versatility because, by trade, he can play all over the back line.

I just expected that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would have Sir Dave Brailsford do a thorough assessment of the club before

any money was spent.

But it appears that United may be prepared to make some purchases during this midseason window in order to

compete for a spot in the top four and the title of champions the following season.

Man United have opened talks with Everton, over the possible signing of midfielder Amadou Onana.

Manchester United Football Club are now in the middle of a pretty significant January transfer window. Erik ten

Hag will be keen on moving out some dead-wood, particularly with fewer games now set to be played following

the Reds’ European exit.

Donny van de Beek has left, while the likes of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial could well follow.

On the flip side, I just assumed that there would be little-to-no money left in the bank at this stage for incoming

signings, though Football Transfers seem to think different, with Everton’s Amadou Onana being eyed.

According to their information, United have ‘initiated talks’ with the Goodson Park club over the signing of the

22-year-old midfielder in the January transfer window.

Sources have told Football Transfers that Ten Hag wanted Onana in the summer, though had to settle for Sofyan
Amrabat due to the lack of funds.

They’re also claiming that the money is there to bring in one ‘significant’ January signing, while the rest would

be loan deals.

Ten Hag is a fan of Onana’s versatility, with the midfielder by trade also aisle to play all across the back line.

Before any money was spent, I just assumed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would undertake a full evaluation of the club,

conducted by Sir Dave Brailsford.

However, it looks as though United are potentially willing to spend in this mid-season window, in order to push

for a place in the top four (and next season’s Champions League). The FA Cup is also a competition that the Red

Devils could look to try and win.

Football Transfers believe Scott McTominay could be used in any deal, with Everton having a ‘long-standing

admiration’ in the Scotland international. There is an idea that a deal involving those two players could benefit

all parties.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Amadou Onana would make sense? Let us know your
