Fabrizio Romano provides update on
Serie A linked Celtic winger
Rocco Vata of Celtic has been updated by
Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio
Romano. Following the revelation that a
new contract was not going to be
reached, the Irish winger has been
connected to leaving the Scottish
Champions in recent weeks.
Now, Romano has stated that Bologna is
keen to sign the eighteen-year-old, who is
available on a pre-contract. If a deal is
reached, Celtic will be paid a little fee;
alternatively, Vata is available this month for a reduced sum.
After demonstrating strong consistency
for the Celtic second team, it seems that
both the player and the club are eager to
split ways as the Ireland U21 looks for
additional first-team opportunities. This
season, Vata has made 18 appearances
for Celtic B and scored an outstanding 11
goals. But in his time with the team, he
has only made four appearances with the First Team.
When Vata joined CAA Base Agency in
the summer, it was expected that he
would leave, but no deal materialized,
therefore Stephen McManus and Darren
O’Dea deployed him in the Lowland Leagues.
When Celtic were short of attacking
options, Vata wasn’t included in the first
team and it was clear that the player
would be moving on. When guys like
Mikey Johnston, Marco Tilio and Yang
weren’t getting games, it was unlikely
that Vata would be even close to first
team involvement, which is a shame as
there is obviously a talented player there.
