Philippe Clement will always be associated with Scottish players due to Rangers’ hunger for homegrown talent,

and Scott McKenna’s predicament at Nottingham Forest has brought up his name recently.

The 30-cap Scotland international’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign,

and the Gers boss’s desire to make squad changes on a tight budget makes sense.

Although Scott McKenna’s allegiances are dubious,

the Rangers may be able to acquire a cheap and trustworthy backup in him.

Transfer journalist Alex Crooks believes that this may be an intriguing transfer war, speaking with GiveMeSport.

Rangers might face renewed competition for Scott McKenna

Rangers were rumoured to be out of the running for the large defender,

but Celtic were first acknowledged as having interest in him.

This opened the way for Clement to sign the player.

However, Crook of Talksport has now disclosed that there has been a further development in the search for the 27-year-old:

McKenna seems to be favoured to join with Celtic. According to a very trustworthy source,

he is being targeted by both major Scottish clubs.

When Cooper’s reign was coming to an end, he wasn’t performing at Forest.

“His team never refuted reports of a rift with Cooper,

but he hasn’t returned to work with Nuno.

“I believe he’s currently not fast enough for the Premier League,

so perhaps he would benefit from a move to the Scottish Premiership.”

Though Scott McKenna used to handle Alfredo Morelos better than most SPFL defenders, it would undoubtedly be a contentious pick.

This transfer is of the horses-for-course variety.

Saying that McKenna wouldn’t be able to advance to the Champions League is unfair to him given that he

has been a regular Premier League player up until a rumoured falling out with Steve Cooper this season.

The fact that Forest was able to play fairly comfortably last season with McKenna and Joe Worrall together speaks much about the development of both players.

Nonetheless, Scott McKenna would be helpful in the majority of home matches because he has experience doing so and

has been a member of a mostly successful Scotland team in recent years.

There would only be one victor if Celtic were in for him, just like Lawrence Shankland was with us.
