The youthful Scotland left-back, 21, has made an impression in Serie A since moving to Italy from Hibs last season, and Rangers has been linked with a surprise move for him.

There has been a lot of speculation about Rangers and Josh Doig because Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz, 22, is also rumoured to be nearing a deal to the Serie A team.

That’s even if initial assessments of €6 million (£5.2 million) seemed to put an end to transfer rumours.

When you include in the mix rumours from Italy that Josh Doig has verbally consented to join Torino, the defender suddenly seems to be moving away from Ibrox.

However, there is still hope for Rangers’ interest in Doig, according to a report published in the prestigious Scottish tabloid the Daily Record, which was authored by respected writer Andy Newport.

Josh Doig’s options are the Rangers, Torino, and Verona.

According to the article, Josh Doig is presently considering three options: staying at Verona, moving to Torino, or switching to the Rangers.

It is believed that Torino manager Ivan Juric is “pushing hard” to finalise a deal for Doig,

and that in order to sweeten the pot,

the Serie A team will pay Verona £3.5 million in addition to Lithuanian prodigy Gvidas Gineitis.

That’s true even though the manager from Croatia asserted that “nothing happens”

at Torino until players depart the team.

Regarding Rangers, rumours have it that the Gers are considering a move in light of Ridvan Yilmaz’s probable departure,

but it’s still unclear if the Ibrox team would make a play.

This follows allegations made by the Scottish Daily Mail on Sunday (07/01/24, back page) that Ridvan Yilmaz was being considered for a possible trade because of his connections to Josh Doig.

This coincides with Verona’s intention to trade Filippo Terracciano,

who has been preventing Doig from playing for the Serie A team this season, to AC Milan.

The contract, which is estimated to be valued up to €5.5 million (£4.7 million),

could potentially assist the Italians in financing Ridvan.

The hunt is on for a Rangers left-back move.

In the meantime, Rangers is still connected to a number of players throughout the transfer window, including multiple left-backs.

While Josh Doig is the most expensive choice, there are other intriguing possibilities,

including Kai Wagner of the Philadelphia Union and Gijs Smal of FC Twente, who are both out of contract.

Compared to Josh Doig, both players would be available for discounted prices,

enabling Rangers to use the transfer money received from the sale of Ridvan Yilmaz to bolster other parts of the team.

Additionally, Besiktas, a Turkish team,

will receive a percentage of whatever profit Rangers generate from the defender’s transfer.

PSV teenager Fredrik Oppegard,

who may be planning to depart the Philips Stadion in January, has also been linked to Rangers.
