Unai Emery insists Aston Villa will battle on all fronts after FA Cup victory
Following their first FA Cup tie victory in eight years, Unai Emery asserts that Villa are prepared to fight on three fronts.
Villa advanced to the fourth round with a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Although Emery’s club is now ranked second in the Premier League and has advanced to the Europa Conference League semifinals, he is also aiming for cup success.
“We are going to approach every competition seeking to be a contender to do something,” he declared.
“The Premier League is our first competition since it will help us achieve our first goal of making it to Europe.
“However, we must view the Conference League and FA Cup as effective means of obtaining something for our fans.” It is both a prestige item and a trophy. Though shorter than the Premier League, it is nonetheless challenging.
“We won’t refuse the possibility to do something in the cup. But we’ll take each match at a time.”
Villa had lost eight straight FA Cup ties before breaking their hoodoo courtesy of Matty Cash’s deflected 87th minute strike.
“The FA Cup is a very historic cup competition—possibly the best in the world,” Emery continued.
“We talked to our players about how successful they were in this competition—not too much.
Villa had a lengthy winning streak in this competition, taking home seven titles. Here, we’re attempting to advance further and establish ourselves as contenders.
“One chance is the FA Cup. Of sure, it’s really challenging. Football is quite challenging.
After taking the initial step on Saturday, we will now concentrate on the following phase. We intend to pursue big goals.
