Rangers: Ibrox receives an update on Josh Doig’s transfer amid January developments
According to the Daily Record, Torino is ready to put a spanner in the works as the Rangers plan to sign Hellas Verona left-back Josh Doig this month.
According to a Scottish news source, on January 8, Serie A is working hard to finalize a £3.5 million deal for the left-
back, and they would be willing to offer Lithuanian prodigy Gvidas Gineitis along with a substantial sell-on price.
On Monday, January 1, the Daily Record revealed on its website that the Gers have made an approach to sign the former Hibernian player as a possible left-back solution.
Though the left-back still has two years left on his present deal, it’s thought that Doig wants to take his time choosing
where to go next. Making Steve Carke’s Scotland Euro 2024 squad this summer will be his top priority, and he will
consider that opportunity when making any future decisions.
Meets the needs
There is ample evidence to suggest that Philippe Clement is dissatisfied with his left-back alternatives and plans to bolster that position in January.
It also shouldn’t come as a huge surprise because Ridvan Yilmaz has mostly underwhelmed and may be moving this
month, while Borna Barisic’s contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season.
To improve their roster this month, Rangers should ideally be seeking to young, homegrown players, and Doig
definitely fits the bill. However, the Gers will have to fight to secure him because Torino is intending to sabotage
their attempt to sign the left-back.
There’s still a chance Rangers might convince Doig to join Ibrox instead of staying in Italy this month, as he is
rumored to want to deliberate on his next move.
After leaving Edinburgh, the Scotsman appeared in 53 SPFL games. Since joining Verona in 2022, he has also made 32 appearances in Serie A.
The stated amount on January 1st was £5.5 million; however, Torino is currently attempting to close a £3.5 million transaction, which can only mean positive things for Rangers. They have no trouble winning this race.
