Gustaf Lagerbielke has struggled in his first few months at Celtic,

and a Serie A team is reportedly interested in bringing him in January,

despite reports the club will consider bids.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio,

Lecce has contacted the Bhoys regarding a loan transfer for the international defender from Sweden.

Celtic is reportedly amenable to the move,

but there are hefty expenses involved that could prevent the agreement from closing;

the Italians are not known to be good negotiators.

It’s unclear if this has to do with pay or a borrowing fee.

The Scottish Daily Mail revealed last month that the Bhoys will consider bids for

Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi as well as the Swede.

Celtic will proceed in the absence of Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Since joining the team, Lagerbielke has made nine appearances in all competitions,

but it is becoming more and more clear that there are other defenders ahead of him in the hierarchy.

Following his short-term loan, Nat Phillips has already returned to Liverpool,

giving Brendan Rodgers a core group of four central defenders to work with in the second half of the season:

Maik Nawrocki, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, and Stephen Welsh.

Lagerbielke reportedly paid £3 million to join Celtic [Sky Sports],

and the fact that he was able to depart so soon into his Bhoys career begs

the question of how the club’s scouting and recruiting departments handle hires.

Even if the 23-year-old ends up going on loan,

his time at Celtic is not finished because he signed a five-year contract with the team.

Over the years, greater comebacks than this have occurred.

Playing on a regular basis in a high-caliber standard league can be advantageous for his long-term goals in Glasgow.

If the manager really doesn’t think he has what it takes to be a Celtic star,

it would at least assist the Bhoys get a respectable transfer fee for him later on.
