In the January transfer window, Leicester City prioritised signing a new left-sided centre defender,

casting doubt on Harry Souttar, a summer transfer target of Rangers.

The 25-year-old Australian international defender,

who has only made four appearances for the team this season,

was heavily linked to the Gers as a last-minute summer acquisition.

The agreement was supposed to be contingent on Rangers star Ben Davies finishing a loan trade to Stoke City,

but it fell through, keeping both players at their respective teams.

However, a transfer update from Leicester City casts doubt on the left-sided centre back’s future as manager Enzo Maresca looks to replace Harry Souttar.

Leicester City searches for a substitute for Harry Souttar

Although Harry Souttar’s transfer status at Leicester City isn’t mentioned by the Athletic directly,

the article indicates that Enzo Maresca views finding a replacement left-sided center-back as a “priority.”

With a 10 point lead over Ipswich Town in second place,

the Foxes are headed for a record-breaking point total after a scorching start to the Championship season.

Even if there isn’t a clear news regarding Harry Souttar, they are still expecting to bolster their team.

Souttar may be leaving the team, though,

if Leicester City decides to make a move for a new left-sided center-half during current transfer window.

A no. 8 is reportedly another player the team is interested in.

Rangers looking for a center-back?

It’s interesting to note that after being connected to a deal for Scott McKenna during the January transfer window,

Rangers do seem to be looking for a new defender.

The centre defender for Nottingham Forest, who has lost favour at the City Ground,

is supposedly available this winter.

Rangers may find it appealing to move for Scotland international Scott McKenna,

who is also out of contract in the summer, for a variety of reasons.

Not least of all because Rangers still lack a long-term partner for club mainstay Connor Goldson in the lineup and the defender is a left-sided center-back.

The primary distinction between the two could be the money associated with any Harry Souttar trade,

as the defender was reportedly valued at £15 million by Leicester in January of last year.

If not, we believe that there is only one winner between the two.

After all, John Souttar, Harry’s brother, is currently a member of the Rangers,

and unlike Scott McKenna, the defender is of blue ancestry.
