Borna Barisic is unlikely to leave Rangers in January, according to Chris Jack, although a new contract offer would

be unexpected given the serious concerns surrounding his play this season.

The reporter for Rangers Review said that Barisic ought to stay at Ibrox past the transfer window, but Ridvan

Yilmaz is the most likely left back to go in January.

But he implied that the Croatian’s time in Glasgow was probably coming to an end and that his career with the

Rangers will eventually come to an end when his contract expired.

Could the Rangers afford to lose two? Jack said in an interview with The Rangers Review on January 8. That’s

certainly more business than I anticipated in that particular pitch area, in my opinion. It seems more likely, in my

opinion, that Ridvan [Yilmaz] moves on.

“I believe Barisic will stick around until the end of the campaign. Contractually, I believe I would be taken aback.

Particularly at teams like Rangers, I believe that players occasionally simply feel as though their natural shelf life is

running out.

“I believe Barisic has served the club well; he has more than paid for the money they paid to acquire him.

“There are clearly a lot of questions about his performances and consistency there. It seems like Barisic’s Rangers career is coming to an end, thus I think the team should do better.

It’s time to go on.

It’s widely believed at Rangers that Barisic will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, even

though he will need to stay at Ibrox past January as the team’s starting left-back to maintain both balance and

quality.

Whether that would be on a pre-arranged contract agreement, with foreign clubs now able to negotiate a deal for

the end of the season or to find a club after the deal expires is unclear, but both will be presented as possibilities.

It seems like the moment has come for both sides to go in different paths. Rangers are rumored to be looking to

add new left-backs in the January transfer window in order to establish a long-term succession plan.

Although Barisic hasn’t played as well as he would have liked in the last few seasons, he will depart Ibrox six years

later with his reputation intact and happy memories of the quality and prizes he won—including an SPFL title

alongside Steven Gerrard.
