Following his season-long loan from Leicester City in 2018–19, FILIP BENKOVIC became a favourite among Celtic supporters.

The talented 25-year-old Croatian centre back played in 20 games during a season that saw him win three trophies while playing for Brendan Rodgers.

Right before they decided to relocate Benkovic to Parkhead for game time, the Midlands club agreed to pay £13 million to Dinamo Zagreb for the player.

In the Hoops’ 5-0 victory over Hearts and their 3-0 triumph over Dundee, both at Parkhead, the imposing defender netted two goals.

Regretfully, he suffered an injury during a 3-0 victory over Hamilton Accies in January 2019, and even though he returned in late March, the talented back-four player’s time in Glasgow was over.

Ironically, he had just 18 months left on his Leicester City deal when Rodgers cut him loose. The player was only selected twice by the former Hoops manager, and his last appearance was in the FA Cup, where they defeated Wigan 2-0 in January 2020. It took him two years to leave the club.

In addition to his treble-winning tenure in Glasgow, Benkovic also had short stints at Cardiff City, OH Leuven in Belgium, and Bristol City.

On January 13, 2022, he signed with Italian team Udinese after leaving King Power Club. He signed a loan agreement with Eintracht Braunschweig, a second-tier German team, in September of last year. In July of the same year, he made another temporary transfer to Trabzonspor, a Turkish club.
