Toronto Raptors at Golden State Warriors: It ain’t 2019 anymore

Warriors: It ain’t 2019 anymore Almost
five years later, it’s interesting to
compare the rosters of the Golden State
Warriors and Toronto Raptors to the
squads who faced off in the 2019 NBA Finals.
The Warriors’ core group of Draymond
Green, Stephen Curry, and Klay
Thompson, along with center Kevon
Looney and head coach Steve Kerr, all
have a striking similarity in appearance.
The Raptors are essentially
unrecognizable: Chris Boucher and
Pascal Siakam are the only two left
(although Boucher did not play that season).
However, both groups are now faced
with a decision. The Warriors are 10th in
the Western Conference while still
having their indigenous stars; Thompson
is a shell, Green is a bully who can’t stay
off the floor and poses a threat to others
around him, and Kerr is receiving
criticism from his younger players.
The Raptors, too? They can’t put together
three wins, they’re not in the play-in
picture, and it looks like they’re
attempting to drive Siakam out of the area.
These are odd times for both teams, who
could both need a victory when they play
tonight in San Francisco.
Nevertheless, a choice must now be
made by both factions. Despite still
having their homegrown stars, the
Warriors sit 10th in the Western
Conference; Thompson is a shell, Green
is a bully who can’t stay off the court and
is a menace to everyone around him, and
Kerr is getting criticism from his younger players.
The Raptors as well? They are not in the
play-in picture, they are unable to string
together three victories, and it appears
that they are trying to force Siakam to leave the area.
The Siakam disrespect is so bizarre
It’s not a new thing — it’s been going on
since the end of last season — but the
way the Raptors and Masai Ujiri
specifically continue to disrespect Pascal
Siakam is incredibly strange. It started
with Ujiri’s “selfish” allegations following
last season, continued to Ujiri basically
saying “we’re not going to extend Siakam
until he plays the right way” in the pre-
season, and it’s intensifying now, as we
approach the trade deadline. The latest is
the team releasing a clip of Ujiri
essentially telling Immanuel Quickley
that he and Scottie Barnes are the future
of the franchise (despite Siakam still being their best player).
Both teams are going through strange
times, and when they play in San
Francisco tonight, they might both need to win.
