Rangers linked to 11 January transfer targets; we rate chances of them joining out of 10

Rangers have eleven names making the Ibrox rounds already,

so it appears they will have a busy January transfer window.

Although Philippe Clement has made jokes about how the club’s transfer business

most likely won’t involve as many players, we believe that some,

if not most, of them have a hint of Ibrox truth.

<yoastmark class=

Here, as the Rangers’ transfer market prepares to heat up,

we rank the likelihood that those players will really join the team in January.

Scott McKenna

We’ll start this piece at the bottom, just as with any excellent modern football squad,

even if Scott McKenna, who is connected to the Rangers,

isn’t exactly a defender in the Sergio Ramos mould.

Still, the former Aberdeen goalkeeper is a very good centre back with a wealth of

Premier League experience and thirty Scotland caps under his belt,

making him a fascinating connection.

Rangers could do worse than arrange a six-month loan for the 27-year-old Nottingham Forest defender before grabbing him on a free agent in the summer,

because Celtic are apparently no longer in the running!

Probability of transfer: 6/10

Jose Cordoba

There has been a transfer link involving Jose Cordoba that Rangers supporters may have overlooked in January.

The 23-year-old Panamanian behemoth was mentioned in passing in reports from Bulgaria,

where he plays defensive midfield for Levski Sofia after switching from defence.

There’s a catch, though: Rangers need to move quickly if they hope to finalise a deal,

as Besiktas is rumoured to be making a January approach for the midfielder.

Probability of transfer: 2/10

Kai Wagner

German left-back Among the names in the problematic situation being connected to Rangers in January is Kai Wagner.

Out of contract at Philadelphia Union,

Gennaro Gattuso and Marseille have been mentioned as possible suitors,

and the MLS team has put in an offer.

This left-back, who has a reputation for being one of the MLS’s best assisters,

fits the profile of a Rangers player and will play until Wagner’s future is determined.

Chance of transfer: 7/10

Fredrik Oppegard

PSV prospect Fredik Oppegard, who was linked to Kai Wagner at the same time,

appears to be leaving the team in January, per manager Peter Bosz.

It’s unclear if it’s a temporary or permanent arrangement,

but it’s obvious that the Norwegian youth international is a long way from the starting lineup of the Eredivisie leaders.

This one hasn’t gone away yet,

and we’ll be keeping a watch on it in the coming weeks since Nils Koppen went to Ibrox from the Philips Stadion.

Probability of transfer: 6/10

Owen Beck

It is rumoured that loan approaches for Liverpool prospect Owen Beck,

who spent the first part of the season on loan at Dundee, were rejected by Rangers and Celtic.

After a strong six months, the young player was called back in January,

and Liverpool is now looking to him in light of injuries to Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson.

Owen Beck is likely to stay at Liverpool for the time being,

but we may revisit this later in the transfer season depending on what transpires with Anfield’s injury situation and Ibrox’s transfer market.

Probability of transfer: 4/10

Josh Doig

Alright, so it’s clear that the Rangers are now considering left-backs,

with Josh Doig of Verona being one of the most well-known players on this list.

The former Hibs left-back has been associated with Rangers concurrently with Verona’s purported interest in Rangers star Ridvan Yilmaz.

However, Doig apparently wants to stay in Italy given that Serie A team Torino is involved,

even though rumours of a £5 million+ transfer price should have cut this connection at the source.

Probability of transfer: 4/10

Gijs Smal

We promise that this left-back is the last one on our list,

and considering Gijs Smal’s position at FC Twente, it’s definitely the best choice for Rangers.

The idea that Rangers could move for the aggressive left-back,

who has become one of the Eredivisie’s most exciting wing-backs, is appealing in every way.

We’ll wait for anything solid before becoming more optimistic about a transaction till the links surfaced online following recommendations on Rangers forums.

The links are out of contract in the summer and offered for a discounted price.

Probability of transfer: 5/10

Alzate Steven

Steven Alzate, a Colombian-Englishman who is nearing the end of his Brighton Premier League deal,

has been linked to Rangers.

The midfielder, who is now receiving treatment for an ankle injury at the AMEX while on loan at Standard Liege, has undoubtedly drawn attention from fans.

But some people think it’s a choice we might come to regret because Philippe Clement reportedly has no interest in signing the player,

even if Rangers have made an offer for him.

Probability of transfer: 5/10

Million Manhoef

Vitesse winger Million Manhoef, one of the most intriguing transfer targets of the window,

shouts Nils Koppen of the Rangers and an ecstatic Ibrox fan base.

Rangers was rumoured to be leading the £2.5 million chase,

thus the move would be viewed as a coup even with competition from teams like Leicester City.

Although things have cooled off a bit on this one,

we wouldn’t be shocked to see things heat up again at some point during the January transfer window considering his position,

availability, and those connections to the Rangers.

Probability of transfer: 6/10

Dennis Emmanuel

Since Abdallah Sima will miss up to seven games because of the AFCON,

Emmanuel Dennis is a very intriguing transfer option.

The Nigerian forward, who only cost Nottingham Forest £20 million last summer,

has struggled during his loan stint in Turkey and is apparently nearing a move to Rangers.

Working at Club Brugge under Philippe Clement, this loan arrangement seems like a great fit,

especially since the connections were originally reported in the Belgian media.

Probability of transfer: 8/10

Lawrence Shankland

The news that many of you have likely been waiting for is here:

Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland is possibly the most consistently connected to the Rangers this century.

The player has been playing for Ayr United, Dundee United, and now Hearts;

Rangers has been connected to him during what may be the most important transfer window to date.

Should Rangers stay still, the repercussions would be disastrous,

but can the Ibrox team raise the $3–£4 million needed to offload the Scotland international?

Probability of transfer: 8/10
