Falcons WATCH: Bijan Robinson Makes History, Scores 71-Yard TD at Saints
In the Falcons’ (7-9) offense’s first-rate start to the season, they take on the New Orleans Saints (8-8) at Caesars Superdome on Sunday.
After a decisive seven-play, 94-yard touchdown drive on their opening series, the Falcons were back on the field.
Five minutes remained in the first quarter and the Falcons were tied 7–7. Desmond Ridder, the quarterback, looked left and found running back Bijan Robinson on a wheel route.
Robinson was in the end zone, celebrating the longest score in his rookie season, about 71 yards later.
Ridder got the start since quarterback Taylor Heinicke was out with a left ankle injury.
He has since completed all five of his throws for 157 yards and scores.
Robinson, for his part, is 45 yards away from becoming the third player in Falcons history to record 500 yards both receiving and rushing in a single season after his 71-yard gain,
He would follow Cordarrelle Patterson and Devonta Freeman, who accomplished the same in 2021 and 2015, respectively.
Robinson broke the record for the most scrimmage yards by a rookie in team history early in the game, amassing 87 yards in just the first quarter.
He was tied with William Andrews going into the game.
To surpass Tyler Allgeier’s franchise record of 1,035 running yards by a rookie, which was set last season,
Robinson needs to gain 78 rushing yards during the last three quarters.
