Aston Villa gets a £10 million transfer boost after a Premier League claim
Ronnie Edwards, a defender for Peterborough United, is reportedly of interest to Aston Villa.
Having participated in virtually every minute of the Posh’s League One campaign thus far, the 20-year-old has shown promise in central defense this season. After 25 games, Peterborough is presently ranked third in their division.
And now, the Mail on Sunday claims that Villa is the newest team interested in signing Edwards. West Ham and Crystal Palace, two other Premier League teams, are rumored to be interested as well; the latter is alleged to have had three bids for the player rejected.
The Independent has previously stated that Peterborough is requesting £10 million in exchange for the defender. It’s said that Barnet’s 50% sell-on clause is the reason for the high price.
The fact that Edwards only has 18 months left on his contract is apparently one issue for Palace. If he is permitted to return on loan until the end of the season, there is reportedly opportunity for discussion.
In center defense, Villa presently has Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Kortney Hause, and Clement Lenglet available. Tyrone Mings is unlikely to play again until the next season due to a knee injury he suffered in Villa’s season-opening encounter against Newcastle, while Pau Torres is out with an ankle ailment.
