Scott McKenna of the Rangers’ January transfer path is “cleared.”
According to a rumor, Rangers won’t have to compete with Celtic for Scott McKenna‘s transfer.
Brendan Rodgers allegedly has no interest in signing the Scotland international.
It follows rumors that on Friday, Rangers and Celtic were both considering January raids for the Nottingham Forest
center-back. Since September, McKenna, 27, has not appeared on the field for Forest, and it is anticipated that he
will leave the team during the current transfer window.
Sky Sports was the first outlet to speculate about a potential loan move to Glasgow this month, with the intention of
signing a free transfer agreement when his Premier League contract expires in the summer.
In September 2020, McKenna left Aberdeen to join Forest, although he has since lost favor. He has only made five Premier League appearances this season.
The 27-year-old’s goal is to participate in the Euros this summer in order to be part of Steve Clarke’s plans for the competition.
It has recently been rumored, though, that McKenna will not be going to Celtic, which may open up a path to Ibrox.
Rangers “won’t face a transfer battle with Celtic” if they try to sign McKenna, according to a Daily Record article.
McKenna is allegedly not on Celtics manager Brendan Rodgers’ list of potential defensive targets for this month.
When McKenna was still at Aberdeen, he was rumored to be heading to Celtic, but the chiefs dropped out of the deal after failing to increase their first £3.5 million offer.
During Rodgers’ first stint at Celtic, Pittodrie directors rejected the offer before agreeing to a “club record fee” with Forest.
McKenna has started all four of Scotland’s recent games under Clarke, despite being barred from the team by his club.
