Noelle Maritz, a Switzerland international, has officially joined Aston Villa Women from Arsenal.
The 28-year-old defender Maritz has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the option to extend it by a further year.
Carla Ward has acquired her first item during the January transfer window with this move.
Before moving to England in 2020, Maritz’s football career included standout seasons with Zürich Frauen and VfL Wolfsburg.
The head coach of Aston Villa, Carla Ward, expressed her happiness at Maritz’s arrival. “We’re thrilled to have Noelle join the club,” Ward remarked.
She lauded Maritz’s vast background, which includes playing in the Champions League and winning multiple trophies. “It’s a really important signing for us as we continue to develop,” Ward said.
Maritz started playing football at Newport Beach, California. Subsequently, she performed for the Players Development Academy located in New Jersey, and in 2005, she went back to Switzerland.
Maritz played with FC Wil in addition to FC Amriswil and FC Staad.
She signed with VfL Wolfsburg in 2013 after making her senior debut with FC Zürich in 2011.
Maritz debuted against Reading after joining Arsenal in 2020.
Since 2013, Maritz has represented Switzerland at the senior level internationally, competing in several World Cups and European Championships.
Her background includes important roles in Switzerland’s campaigns at the European Championship and World Cup qualifiers.
She participated in all four games in the 2023 World Cup, which saw Switzerland advance to the round of sixteen, and was a member of the squad for the 2022 European Championship.
