Jordan Pickford speaks on Sunderland return as Everton star in attendance for Newcastle clash
Jordan Pickford summed up his Everton
season thus far by saying he “feels really good.”
At the Stadium of Light, where he went
on Saturday to witness his old team,
Sunderland, play Newcastle United in the
FA Cup, the goalie was questioned about
the Blues campaign. Inquiries into the
29-year-old’s tenure with England were also made.
He described his current feeling as
“mint” and added: “I feel really good. At
Everton we are doing really well, we
have had a points deduction but we have
found some form and been picking up
results. With England it has always been
good, we have just got to keep working
hard, keep improving to be the best.”
Pickford was present for the Tyne and
Wear derby, where he will witness
Anthony Gordon, a former teammate at
Everton, square off against the team he
cheers for. Everton, who drew at Crystal
Palace on Thursday, has already
experienced third-round action heading into this match.
Pickford’s understudy Joao Virginia got
his chance to shine during the game,
which he had missed the previous four.
Before the match, which he described as
“massive for the whole of the North
East,” the Everton and England star
predicted that he would likely have hairs
on the back of his neck because it had
been a while. He also expressed
excitement about the pre-match song
and the enthusiastic response from the crowd.
