First All-Star vote return signifies Golden State Warriors continued popularity
Despite having a 16–18 record and
outside of the Play-In seedings, the
Golden State Warriors’ unsatisfactory
start to the season hasn’t diminished their fan base.
That much has been demonstrated by the
return of the first fan ballot in advance
of the 2024 All-Star Game, which is
scheduled for February 18 at Gainbridge
Fieldhouse in Indiana.
The fact that Klay Thompson made it into
the top 10 of the All-Star fan vote shows
how popular the Golden State Warriors are still.
Not unexpectedly, Stephen Curry, the
superstar from Golden State, is ranked in
the top few fan votes in the Western
Conference. Although it may be
surprising to see him trail Dallas
Mavericks guard Luka Doncic in the
rankings, Curry clearly still has a great
deal of popularity in the NBA.
While Curry’s place towards the top of
fan voting was a fait accompli, Klay
Thompson’s presence in the top 10 shows
the popularity that the Warriors, and the
veteran shooting-guard, still holds among fans.
Thompson should be far from the 2024
All-Star Game, in all actuality. Thompson,
33, has been the subject of intense
scrutiny for the majority of the season
while averaging 16.9 points, 3.7
rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
Thompson’s ranking in the top 10 puts
him ahead of several skilled guards in
the Western Conference, including as
Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns, who
was mostly thought to be the biggest
disappointment of the first round of fan voting.
As much as fans may want to see
Thompson make his sixth All-Star
appearance, the sharpshooter’s chances
are practically zero given 50% of the
final vote is made up by the media and players (25% each).
