Rangers could be forced to give up chunk of January transfer fee amid fresh development – report

If Rangers opt to let Ridvan Yilmaz leave the team in January,

they will forfeit 20% of any sum they receive for the player, according to dailysportnews.

A 20% sell-on provision has been added to the defender’s Rangers contract by the Istanbul club,

according to a report published on their website on January 4.

If the player departs the Ibrox club during the term of his contract,

the Istanbul club would receive a portion of the transfer money.

The left-back is reportedly a target for “very active” talks between Verona,

an Italian team, and Philippe Clement,

who is reportedly willing to let him go should a suitable offer be made.

As per the terms of the 2022 deal signed between Rangers and Beşiktaş,

the Black-Whites will get 20 percent of the net transfer income if Ridvan Yilmaz is loaned to or

transferred to another club while his Rangers FC contract is still in effect.

Shame

In the summer of 2022, Rangers paid approximately £4 million to acquire Ridvan Yilmaz,

and as 2024 approaches, they have yet to receive a return on their investment.

Despite his outstanding performances,

Clement feels uneasy about the Turk,

who has started the last four games in a row—one of his longest streaks on the club.

Although Borna Barisic has always been the preferred choice,

his contract situation indicates that a new left-back is currently required.

However, if Yilmaz is indeed leaving,

the club must realise that they will probably lose money rather than make it,

as Verona is unlikely to cough up the £5 million needed to break even because of this 20% clause.

At the time of the acquisition,

the club obviously believed that Ridvan would have a high resale value.

However, it doesn’t appear that way,

and the Gers may suddenly find themselves short on cash.
