Rangers confirm 22-year-old’s departure from Ibrox, first out of the January window
Ben Williamson, a midfielder, has officially left Rangers after completing his transfer to Hamilton Academicals.
The 22-year-old will now try to settle in at the League One team after spending the last several seasons out on loan at
no fewer than five SPFL clubs. After having stints at Arbroath, Livingston, Raith Rovers, Dundee, and Partick
Thistle, Ben Williamson is moving permanently to Hamilton to start a new chapter in his career.
Ben Williamson relocates to Hamilton
Following their top flight relegation in 2021, the former Premiership team has seen quite the fall from grace; they are
currently back in the thick of things at the top of Scottish League One.
Ben Williamson never made an appearance for the Rangers team, even though he went through the Junior Academy.
Although a number of young players have been given opportunities by Rangers in recent seasons, Williamson’s
lengthy loan history combined with the fierce competition within the squad has kept him from making an impact at
Ibrox. Williamson’s current task is to go to Hamilton, secure a spot in the starting lineup on a regular basis, and start
making first-team appearances in men’s football.
Never occurred to talent from Rangers Academy
Ben Williamson does have a lot of experience playing Scottish football at all levels. Before his season-long loan was
terminated in 21/22, he even had a brief stint in the Premiership with Livingston.
Ben Williamson made his biggest impression in Scotland during his tenure at Dick Campbell’s Arbroath, but since
then, things haven’t gone as planned, and it’s time for the midfielder to find consistency.
He’s not exactly a young player without experience at age 22, and everyone at Rangers is hoping the midfielder has
the best possible season in Hamilton.
We have some names on file that we believe could be Ben Williamson’s trail as he leaves Rangers during the transfer
window.
Philippe Clement has benched under-fire forward Sam Lammers, and there’s a lot of talk about Borna Barisic and
Ridvan Yilmaz, the left-back duo.
