West Ham must pay £31.5 million to buy a left-back from the biggest teams in the Premier League

It appears like West Ham United has to spend heavily in order to secure a top-tier left defender during the January transfer window.

For West Ham, the January transfer window will be crucial, and David Moyes will need to get a new left-back to rival

Emerson Palmieri. The 34-year-old Aaron Cresswell, who the Hammers manager only has as a backup for the Italy

international, really ought to be out of the Premier League.

Ian Maatsen, a left-back for Chelsea, has been continuously linked to West Ham over the past few months. The 21-

year-old recently acknowledged that he would be open to leaving Stamford Bridge.

Maatsen was brilliant for Burnley  during his season-long loan at Turf Moor last year, but Mauricio Pochettino has

only given him little chances back at Chelsea this season. In fact, he has only played 199 Premier League minutes (Transfermarkt).

He might now depart from the Blues. How much, though, will the Hammers have to shell out for him?

West Ham is instructed to spend a high fee to sign a left-back. Ben Jacobs, a football journalist, claims that Chelsea

is requesting £31.5 million for Maatsen during the January transfer window. Although it seems like a huge sum of

money for someone so young and inexperienced, I firmly think that the 21-year-old Chelsea player would be well

worth it.

Maatsen would undoubtedly be a significant improvement over Cresswell and give Emerson appropriate competition

as well as cover. The young defender has an excellent engine and is really quick. He possesses remarkable technical

skill and exudes comfort in the role.

In 39 Championship appearances for the Clarets during the 2022–2023 season, the young player finished with four

goals and six assists (Who Scored). He will undoubtedly be excellent in the future. While £31.5 million may seem like

a lot of money, for a gifted young player these days, it’s certainly standard operating procedure.

Maatsen is a Netherlands under-21 international who will surely play senior international football for his nation.

In my opinion, the Chelsea left-back, who West Ham paid slightly over £31 million for in January, will be worth

twice as much in a few years.
