Rangers are considering Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate,

as his contract is about to expire, as reported by Dailysportnews.

According to a report from the Belgian news site on January 3,

Rangers and Philippe Clement have inquired about the 25-year-old Colombian midfielder,

who is being tried to be sold by Brighton before his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

The Seagulls would prefer to move the player for a fee before his contract runs out and he leaves on a free transfer,

although it is known that Brighton has the option to extend his deal by a year.

An intriguing midfield solution After joining Brighton from Leyton Orient in 2017,

the relatively unknown player appeared to be another success story at the team.

After that, he made 51 appearances between August 2019 and September 2022,

but Roberto de Zerbi has not been able to get him back into the starting lineup.

Alzate is now on his second loan term with Standard Liege,

although he has returned to England for treatment after rupturing his anterior talofibular ligament in his left ankle.

Although his loan is scheduled to conclude at the end of the current campaign,

Brighton may bring him back sooner in order to offload the player.

Alzate’s talent is evident, as he has four goals and seven assists in 41 games for the Belgian team.

Clement must have been keeping an eye on his rival from Belgium.

The midfielder might be a great fit for the injured Gers team once he fully recovers from this terrible injury.

For the most part of his career,

Clement has been without Ryan Jack and Nico Raskin and has shown little faith in Jose Cifuentes.

Instead, full-back Dujon Sterling has been filling in as a stand-in.

The manager, who was trying to establish his own brand of football but

was left with a collection of incoherent players by Michael Beale’s shopping spree,

has been quite transparent about bringing in his own transfers.

And after Wolves loaned out Fabio Silva, Alzate might be among the first.

If the deal fell through,

Brighton would be forced to sell the player in the summer and give him a one-year contract extension,

which is also a possibility for Rangers given their financial situation.
