The Atlanta Falcons have not shied away from scouting talent up north. During his time in Atlanta, Terry Fontenot’s front office has worked out or signed a number of CFL players, with a few of them spending the summer training with the Falcons in an attempt to make an impression.

From their forays across the border, they have one resounding success story: Dee Alford, a former NFL player who is currently a nickel cornerback and punt returner.

The group might be preparing for another attempt. Austin Mack, a wide receiver who was an all-star for the Montreal Alouettes last season, has been worked out by the Falcons, according to 3 Down Nation.

Mack, 26, was an undrafted free agent who caught on with the New York Giants back in 2020 and grabbed seven passes for 91 yards.

He was dropped by the Giants after being placed on injured reserve in 2021 and bounced around a bit before landing in the CFL, where he helped the Alouettes to a championship while reeling in 78 catches for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns.

Standing 6’1” (or 6’2”, depending on where you look), Mack’s scouting reports typically praise his size, strength, and route-running acumen, but are less complimentary toward his hands, blocking, and inconsistent production.

The Falcons could sign him to the practice squad this week or pick him up later on a reserve/future contract if they like what they saw from the workout, and this team is going to head into next year with virtually no wide receivers under contract aside from Drake London, so having a youngish one to compete would be welcome.

We’ll see if the team brings him aboard, but given their recent history with the CFL, I’d be surprised if this is the last name from that league we hear connected to the Falcons in 2024.
