Pundit lists the three “best of the best” in the Premier League, including players from Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
Nedum Onouha, a former player for Manchester City, named Douglas Luiz, Declan Rice, and Rodri the “best of the
best” midfield players in the Premier League this year. Only Abdoulaye Doucoure has scored more goals in the
Premier League this year than Douglas Luiz among true center midfielders. The Villa player is on par with Julian
Alvarez and Evan Ferguson, the forwards.
It should come as no surprise that Arsenal and City are apparently chasing him after his stellar performances, which
saw him score six goals, dish out three assists, and propel Villa to second place in the league.
Rice and Rodri, the top two Premier League teams from the previous season, both have exceptional midfield players,
and Onouha, a former City player, believes Luiz has performed on par with them this year.
Onouha stated on Final Score, “In my opinion, Rodri, Declan Rice, and Douglas Luiz have been the best of the best in
midfield this season.”
Rice and Rodri, the top two Premier League teams from the previous season
The Brazilian deserves a lot of credit for being positioned with those midfield players. While Rice won the Europa
Conference League and requested a £105 million fee, which he fulfilled, Rodri won three Premier League crowns and
a Champions League while playing at City. That implies that Luiz might be worth a comparable price if he were to
move on at any point, even if Villa are emphatic that they won’t be selling anytime soon.
Additionally, it lets the two teams pursuing Luiz know that they are justified in pursuing him. It’s debatable if he
would fit in with City or Arsenal’s midfield options given who they already have, but he is undoubtedly talented
enough to play for either team. However, Villa is currently benefiting from Luiz’s form and will hope that it lasts for
the next few years. If they stay where they are in the league presently, they may have an opportunity to compete in
the Champions League.
