The problem involving Andrew Wiggins

and Jonathan Kuminga is at the forefront

of that, which intensified after Kuminga

complained about his playing time

following their Christmas Day defeat.

According to The Athletic’s Tim

Kawakami, “Kuminga and Wiggins could

be the Warriors’ two most attractive trade assets in a few weeks.

Could Toronto’s OG Anunoby or Pascal

Siakam, who can play two positions, help

the Warriors win a playoff series if they

match Kuminga with Paul’s contract that

is about to expire? Or might the Raptors

find interest in Canadian Wiggins? While

both Raptors forwards are eligible to

become free agents this summer, there

are dangers there as well, but the

Warriors would almost definitely be

pursuing players at that caliber, according to Kawakami.

If the pair can’t play together, which

numbers back it up, someone’s gotta go.

“I’ve heard that this would not be a

major barrier for the Warriors to explore

Wiggins’ trade market, though I’ve said

in the past that they might be reluctant

to trade Wiggins so soon after he signed

a relatively bargain-rate contract

extension specifically so he could remain

with this team,” Kawakami wrote.

“Especially if Kuminga ends up being the

Warriors’ starting small forward and he

is unable to play with him.”

Wiggins is in the first season of his four-

year, $109 million deal. On the other

hand, Kuminga is eligible for a rookie

extension next summer.

It’s like the Draymond Green–Jordan

Poole situation all over again, minus the

punching. New Warriors GM Mike

Dunleavy Jr. has to choose between the two forwards moving forward.

Kuminga expressed his desire for greater

playing time, and Golden State has lost two straight since then.

During Thursday’s defeat by the depleted

Miami Heat, Wiggins once more reaped the benefits of the larger pie.

Kuminga started all OK, but in his 23

minutes of action, he only managed to

score 10 points on 5 of 11 shots, grab 5

rebounds, and dish out one assist. He

finished tied with Klay Thompson for the

team-worst plus-minus of minus- 26.
