Ibrox View: Rangers player has let himself down, rightfully labelled ‘Poor’ by Sutton
During the first half of the Rangers versus Celtic Old Firm match, Abdallah Sima shocked his teammates by playing outstanding defence.
After twenty-five minutes, Paulo Bernardo finally hammered the ball past Jack Butland and through a sea of bodies, putting the Gers under pressure.
Rangers had their moments at Celtic Park, but Celtic had the better of things up to that point in their match on Saturday, December 30.
But the opening goals in these matches are usually decisive, and Sima was sadly the player who gave up the opener for the home team.
The Gers player headed the ball from near the goal line into Bernardo’s path to score after a corner came in from the right.
It’s a beautiful conclusion, as Chris Sutton stated on Sky Sports Main Event on December 30, 12:58 p.m. He completely nails that. Bernardo is aware of the weak defensive header, though.
It goes without saying that a professional player cannot be as careless as that when guarding a ball into the box, especially not in this fixture. Sima is obviously not in the team for his defensive abilities.
Sima made just one assault attempt in the first half, and it was unsuccessful in reaching the goal [Sofascore].
Moreover, he had the second-fewest touches of any outfield Gers player (18), and he only completed on dribbles—the same quantity as Leon Balogun, to put things in perspective.
Fortunately for Sima, Celtic Park still has 45 minutes of play left. The Brighton and Hove Albion loanee’s only hope is that he or a teammate can make up for the mistake on defence.
