The Bears must defeat the Falcons at Soldier Field in order to prolong their

hopes of making the playoffs for one more week.

Atlanta has had a roller coaster year, much like Chicago.

The hosts of the Under Centre podcast discuss their predictions for Sunday’s game.

DAVIS, Kenneth

I will make this short and sweet. In the Falcons’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts last week,

Taylor Heinicke completed 23 of 33 passes for 229 yards and one score.

He now gets to play against the Chicago Bears, who have one of the strongest defences in the league.

He will be covered like a Snuggie by the Bears defence.

In addition, the defence will result in turnovers. Easily, I would wager two or three turnovers.

The Falcons will then have to contend with DJ Moore and Justin Fields on the opposing side of the ball.

The Falcons defence will probably struggle in this encounter.

30 Bears, 17 Falcons

The Bears’ chances of making the playoffs are limited going into their game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

A loss to the 7-8 Falcons will put an end to those waning hopes.

I don’t think that will occur.

Throughout the season, the Falcons have alternated between Taylor Heinicke and Desmond Ridder as quarterback.

After providing Atlanta with a spark in the Falcons’ Week 16 victory against the Indianapolis Colts,

Heinicke will start on Sunday. Although Heinicke is a more dependable passer than Ridder,

the Bears defence, which has been playing at a nearly elite level for more than a month, shouldn’t be alarmed by him.

The Falcons have unique skill players in running back Bijan Robinson,

wide receiver Drake London, and tight end Kyle Pitts, but they haven’t been able to consistently get the ball this season.

Atlanta is eighth in running, trailing just Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, but 22nd in passing offence.

The Bears will have a strong chance to win their final home game of 2023 if their elite run defence can contain Robinson and Allgeier.

I anticipate that the Bears will rely more on their run game against Atlanta’s 15th-ranked run defence with Darnell Mooney sidelined due to a concussion.

The Bears manage to pull off a hard victory at home thanks to 200 yards of running and smart playmaking from quarterback Justin Fields.

Bears: 23, Falcons: 21

This game should end soon so that everyone has plenty of time to travel

home and prepare for their New Year’s Eve festivities.

The Falcons and Bears game on Sunday looks to be a low-scoring contest between

two teams who rely heavily on their run game and defence.

In terms of yards per attempt, the Falcons’ running defence is ranked in the top 10 alongside the Bears’.

Similar to the Bears, the Falcons are among the top five offensive teams in terms of running attempts.

When you start examining the staff, the differences start to become apparent.

The Bears have mostly used a hot-hand strategy in their running backs room,

alternately starting Roschon Johnson, D’Onta Foreman, and Khalil Herbert.

Additionally, the Falcons have divided carries between Tyler Allgeier and Bijan Robinson.

However, Robinson is the only one who can make plays better than the others.

He is a true back who can do whatever a team requires because he is powerful,

quick, elusive, and an exceptional pass catcher.

But I believe Justin Fields will have the largest impact.

In the quarterback competition with Taylor Heinicke, he gives the Bears a decisive advantage.

He can also assist the Bears in producing just enough plays to win the game.

Bears: 16, Falcons: 13
