What Philippe Clement said about Connor Goldson’s hopes of making Celtic clash
When asked about Rangers defender Connor Goldson’s injury status, a disgruntled Philippe Clement was unable to respond.
Following the team’s 2-0 victory over Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, the Belgian manager expressed his dejection at the club’s injury issues.
Claiming that nine first-teamers are now on the sidelines, Rangers are under pressure to navigate three tricky Premiership fixtures – including a trip to Celtic Park – before a winter break breather in January.
Connor Goldson is the freshest injury doubt, with the Rangers vice-captain limping out of the Fir Park victory with an as of yet undetermined issue in his groin.
Philippe Clement’s ominous Connor Goldson soundbites
Speaking about the state of the squad at full-time, Philippe Clement claims that he’s living “day-by-day” in making assessments of the Rangers team.
In an ominous update, the Rangers boss also couldn’t tell supporters if the influential Goldson would be available in the upcoming run of matches.
That was after the Rangers manager confirmed Borna Barisic and Ben Davies missed the win over Motherwell due to injury.
“Yes, (Borna Barisic and Ben Davies) were not here, so yes,” said Clement. “Everybody’s asking me these questions every day so I’m a little bit fed up with that.
“But I need to speak about it. I don’t know, we will see tomorrow, we will see the day after and then it’s another game again.
“So it’s looking day by day what is the situation, what is the fitness of the players. So it’s difficult to plan a lot of things in advance, so I’m living from day to day.”
When quizzed on Connor Goldson’s availability, Clement said: “That’s the same answer as the last question. We will see tomorrrow.
“He felt something at the end of the game, we will see tomorrow.”
Rangers injury crisis deepens
Rangers face a series of major injury issues heading into a tough week for the club at Ibrox.
Midfield is a particular area of concern, with Nicolas Raskin & Tom Lawrence long-term injury absences and Jose Cifuentes, Ryan Jack & John Lundstram also sidelined.
Up top, Rangers summer signing Danilo is recovering from knee surgery whilst the perennially crocked Kemar Roofe is once again on the treatment table.
Defensive issues have cropped up again recently, with the injuries to Borna Barisic and Ben Davies bringing the first-team absentees to nine.
The Rangers are suddenly preparing for a trip to Celtic Park without a whole outfield group of possible starting due to an injury to Connor Goldson.
This evening, Rangers will host Ross County at Ibrox. Here is the lineup we have put together using the players still available to represent the team.
It’s not just the Gers who have injury concerns ahead of their trip to Celtic Park.
