Wales captain Jac Morgan to miss Scotland Six Nations opener amid other injury concerns
Wales’ captain, Jac Morgan, is expected to miss the beginning of the competition,
which is a setback ahead of their Six Nations opener against Scotland.
The Ospreys back-row forward will need “months rather than weeks” to heal from his knee surgery before
he is ready to play again. On February 3, 2024,
the Principality Stadium will play host to Wales and Scotland in the first weekend of the Six Nations.
Morgan underwent the procedure last week.
Morgan and Dewi Lake were the co-captains of Wales during the Rugby World Cup.
The Ospreys’ head coach, Toby Booth, stated:
“The operation was successful and the right thing to do; it was necessary.”
Although he is a young man who recovers rapidly,
playing professionally comes with certainties, including the knowledge that you will
occasionally get hurt and that your fortitude will be put to the test.
We intend to focus on improving him off the pitch so that he may return to
his full potential in the months rather than the weeks ahead.
Although Adam Beard and Will Rowlands have also been suggested as potential leaders by the Welsh media,
Lake is currently the favourite to lead Wales in the Six Nations.
Morgan is not the only ailment that Wales’ head coach Warren Gatland is worried about.
While flanker Taine Plumtree is dealing with a shoulder issue,
lock forward Christ Tshiunza is suffering from a broken foot.
On February 10, Wales will play their second Six Nations match away to England,
on the same day that Scotland will host France.
