Celtic hit form as Storm Mikey batters Dundee
Celtic hit form as Storm Mikey batters Dundee 36 shots, 3 goals, 7 on goal, and 23 corner kicks. Even though there
are still two games remaining, these statistics accurately depict the
thrilling victory at Dens that put Celtic five points ahead of their closest rivals, the Rangers.
Recently, supporters have been quick to voice their disapproval of Brendan Rodgers’ style of play, and there have been many who have
been critical of the Irishman. There was not much to be unhappy about up in Dundee.
The Dens men were severely outclassed by Celtic, who, as usual, had to negotiate a wall of blue while attempting to traverse another
Scottish turkey-shoot. It makes sense that the broadcasters are unwilling to waste good money
on bad teams given how awful this league is.
If there is a complaint to be had it’s probably about the lack of sharpness in front of goal, and to say this after a 3-0 away romp says it
all. There were some sterling performers in Hoops, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Luis Palma, Paulo Bernardo and…Mikey Johnston.
You did really hear correctly. After coming off the bench, Mikey finally found his groove and scored twice. It’s probably unfortunate
that he didn’t take the match ball home with him. When his name was called, I saw the heads drop and heard the moans,
but Mikey deserves credit for stepping up and winning the points.
The constantly evolving Under duress, Paulo Bernardo scored an excellent goal as he walked through the game. Although he lacked
flare, he controlled his area with a number of tackles and easy passes that kept our front line occupied.
Palma was a constant thorn in the side of a shell-shocked Dundee defence, excelling as a winger and rushing forward at every
opportunity. Indeed, they were all defenders today, and they should carefully consider their desire to win the Premier League.
Luis needs to mix up his corner kicks even though he has a lot in his locker. He isn’t able to score directly on every try!
Carter-Vickers. The big man was superb throughout despite a couple of uncharacteristic mis-passes. He’s a lucky man Ange was not
there to give him the look! Seriously, he was brilliant at both ends and should have gotten Celts another goal.
It is imperative that the large man stands out from the others because he is granted a distinct set of rules. Apparently it’s completely
acceptable to be bundled into the net and have your head wrapped by a goalie and defender working together
while manhandling you at a corner!
It defied belief that not one of several officials VAR included ‘saw it’. In Scotland it is no real surprise that there was no penalty kick
given for such an infraction. His removal whilst holding a suspect hamstring put a knot in our stomachs but Brendan ‘hopes’ the
American international will be fit for the big one. Brendan might also ‘hope’ that we might come
under the same rulebook as others from time to time!
