Lakers News: LA Considering Trade For East All-Star Guard
Things looked extremely different in late December after it appeared that your Los Angeles Lakers had a fantastic 2023 summer.
The Purple and Gold are in the middle of a difficult run, with a poor 16-15 record after 31 games.
The Lakers are obviously not a finished product,
and a move for LA appears to be imminent.
At least according to Shams Charania of FanDuel,
it appears that the Lakers are constantly involved in trade talks.
When discussing possible trade possibilities for the Lakers,
Charania mentioned Dejounte Murray,
a former All-Star guard for the Atlanta Hawks.
“One more player to keep an eye on I’m told, a potential target for the Lakers,
Hawks guard Dejounte Murray,” Charania said.
Murray would be a good fit for the Lakers as they look to go all in this season.
Murray, who won the thefts title in 2021–2022,
is a talented defender who is only 27 years old. In 2017,
Murray was awarded All-Defense.
He has played with the Hawks for the past two seasons,
but they may try to trade for their second-best player because the squad hasn’t been
the same since its 2021 run in the Eastern Conference.
Murray has averaged 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists,
and 38.2% field goal and three-point shooting percentage through 29 games.
Although Dejounte is enjoying another successful season,
will it work out with the Lakers?
Murray signed a very reasonable four-year,
$64 million contract when still with the San Antonio Spurs,
and he is currently in the final season of that deal.
With incentives, he’s probably making $18.2 million,
so he’d probably need a deal of $17.3 million or $15.7 million from D’Angelo Russell or Rui Hachimura.
I see no reason why not. Although it’s not a position of necessity,
the Lakers don’t have a guard who can defend at a high level,
so why not pursue one at a reasonable price? LeBron James,
the star player for the Lakers, and Murray are close pals, so the match might work.
We’ll see if Murray will be wearing purple and gold by mid-February,
but it’s certain that the team we’re watching now is not the one that will be there.
