The Dallas Cowboys are in as strong a position as any to challenge for a Super Bowl, according to owner Jerry Jones, despite the fact that the club has lost its last two games against AFC contenders.

Dallas is 3-4 versus teams that are currently in the running for the playoffs, but Jones claims that the team’s health is their greatest asset.

“Yes, I definitely do. “Absolutely, I think so,” Jones responded to a query about whether he thought Dallas might win the championship this year on Dallas’s 105.3 The Fan.

“I wouldn’t trade our position for a better one today — and it has everything to do with how healthy we are in key spots.”

Jones said he expects the All-Pro duo of left tackle Tyron Smith and cornerback Stephon Gilmore to play in Saturday’s home game against the Detroit Lions.

Dallas needs to beat Detroit to secure a tiebreaker for the potential No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Cowboys would still need the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles to lose their final two games in order to leapfrog them.

“As far as preparing this team to go win a football game, we’re in as good a shape as we’ve been in many years, for this team to go on a good-game run and win this thing,” Jones said.

“And that’s saying a lot this time of year. A lot of people can’t say that. But we have some things that could really improve our team if we clean it up.”

The Cowboys wrap their season with the Lions and a trip north to play the Washington Commanders. Dallas has already clinched a playoff spot. Now, it’s all about seeding for Jones’s team.
