You correctly read it. Here is a list of Rangers players that we believe should be sold for a total of £12.5 million in 2024.

Let’s face it, throughout the last three transfer windows, Rangers have squandered a large sum of money. These players ought to be putting up far more in a Light Blue shirt for the money they are being paid.

Of course, some have been prosperous. Michael Beale signed Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin for a total of £2.8 million in January of last year. It was one of his few successful moves while at Rangers.

One must consider even the summer 2022 signing of Antonio Colak to be a triumph. With eighteen goals in the previous campaign, he truly ought not to have been let go for the rumored £2.5 million Rangers paid for him.

Apart than that, it’s been rather gloomy. Every Rangers fan is aware of the exact events of the summer transfer window, and we believe that one player who was added at that time ought to be let go.

And despite it being the season of goodwill, there are two more big-money signings who simply need to be relinquished of their Rangers duties.

In fairness, Philippe Clement has fielded them on a number of occasions since arriving in Glasgow but we feel it’s time for them to go and replace them with the Belgian’s own picks.

Ridvan Yilmaz

Ridvan Yilmaz had perhaps one true moment of quality in a Rangers shirt but it’s not enough for him to warrant seeing out his Ibrox contract.

That runs until 2027 so Rangers should just cut their losses for a player who just hasn’t wholly convinced the supporters since signing in June 2022.

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson is another who doesn’t see a future for Yilmaz in Glasgow and for the whopping £5m paid for the Turkish left-back, he should have been challenging Borna Barisic for the first-choice spot way more than he has.

Clement has given Yilmaz a fair few chances this season, starting four times in the Premiership compared to Michael Beale’s one starting opportunity.

But he’s been in and out like the hokey cokey with a number of spots on the bench too. Rangers need to sort out a long-term solution for the left-back position under Clement and Yilmaz shouldn’t be a part of that.

Ben Davies

Ben Davies is another who hasn’t wholly lived up to his price tag. Sure, the former Preston North End defender has given his all at Ibrox but he’s being linked with a move away and the majority of the Rangers fanbase probably won’t be too bothered by that.

They’ll be concerned that Rangers paid £4m for him though. Davies excelled with Preston for eight years and that earned him a huge move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in 2021.

But he wouldn’t make a single league appearance for the Anfield giants and after a loan stint with Sheffield United, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson sanctioned a big-money swoop for Davies in 2022.

He was effectively a left-footed replacement for Calvin Bassey but the 28-year-old has been a big downgrade on the Fulham star’s qualities.

Clement will want to target better long-term central defenders, especially given Leon Balogun’s age and John Souttar’s injury unpredictability. For him to do that, Davies – contracted until 2026 – should be moved on.

Sam Lammers

Is Sam Lammers the most disappointing transfer of the summer 2023 window?

That tag could have been attributed to the likes of Cyriel Dessers but he’s rediscovered a bit of form under Philippe Clement of late. Jose Cifuentes hasn’t been great since a move from LAFC though only £1.2m was handed over for the Ecuadorian.

Kieran Dowell has effectively gone missing so in fairness to Lammers, the luckless former Norwich City man could be that man. It would be hard to argue against the Dutchman however. £3.5m was spent on his services from Atalanta and not even Clement can squeeze the best out of him.

Perhaps we’re seeing the best he can offer? Lammers is technically a decent player but one still wonders where his best position is. He doesn’t score enough goals and his creative output can’t be relied upon either.

Lammers needs to find a new home in the summer, unless Clement can pull a rabbit out of the hat and prove he’s worthy of the money Beale paid for him.
