On Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors,

the Portland Trail Blazers overcame their tendency to get off to a sluggish start, but the outcome remained the same.

a defeat of 126–106.

After the Blazers’ 30-23 first-quarter victory, everything went south. The Warriors took a 57-46 edge into the half after dominating the second quarter, 34-16. They kept the Blazers at bay after that and ultimately won the game in the fourth quarter.

“We had a difficult start, but we’re off to a good start now,” Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said to reporters at the Chase Centre. “Defensively, I thought we played pretty well early on. Kind of getting around, scrambling.

But according to Billups, his team’s momentum was harmed by a couple of Warriors offensive rebounds in the closing minutes of the first quarter.

“They just kicked our butts so bad on the rebonds, and it really changed the game for us. We turned it over a little bit in the second quarter,” Billups remarked.

Ultimately, the Warriors pulled down 13 offensive rebounds, which resulted in 15 second-chance points as opposed to the Blazers’ 8.

“Those are some deflating plays, where you play pretty good defence and then don’t come up with the ball,” Billups remarked. They delivered it to us. They did, in fact.

The Blazers were outrebounded 49–30 by the Warriors.

The Blazers performed admirably throughout most of the game. With 25 points and 7 of 13 three-pointers made, Anfernee Simons led the squad. Malcolm Brogdon contributed 12 assists and 17 points.

However, the Warriors, who are now 5-1 following Draymond Green’s suspension, overcame a lacklustre three-point shooting performance (30.3%) and eighteen turnovers by shooting 76% on two-pointers.

Stephen Curry scored 27 points on 11 of 18 shots, while Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 28 points on 11 of 16 shots. Additionally, they shot 8 of 17 three-pointers collectively. Brandin Podziemski, a rookie, scored 15 points on 7 of 12 shots. The Blazers were unable to surpass their combined level of efficiency.

In Billups’ opinion, “we did a pretty good job of locking into what we were trying to do defensively.” That gave us a strong start, which we were unable to maintain. That team never stopped wearing you down.

The fact that the Blazers could only convert 12 of the Warriors’ 18 turnovers into points did not help.

“When we do have turnovers, we need to be able to convert them more effectively,” Billups stated. “It’s a demoralising play for them, and those are big opportunities for us.”

WHAT IT CONTAINS

With nine losses in a row, the Blazers (7-21) are currently 0-3 down in their season series against the Warriors. In order to move back above.500, Golden State (15-14) has won five straight games.

Henderson, SCOOT

Something is better than nothing when a rookie shows development in a loss. Henderson scored 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting and made 2 of 4 three-pointers after coming off the bench. In slightly less than twenty-three minutes, he added two assists, two rebounds, and three steals.
