Golden Guardians organization seemingly completely shutters
The Golden Guardians have removed their website and
vanished from social media following their exit from the LCS last month.
After leaving the LCS, the Golden Guardians, an American esports team
owned and run by the NBA team Golden State Warriors,
appear to have shut down completely.
The company’s Twitter/X page was reported to have vanished on December 21st,
with the standard “This account doesn’t exist” notice being displayed instead. Reba Robinson,
a former social media manager, alerted the surviving Golden Guardians fans to this.
The following succinct message explaining the team’s exit from the LCS is
now also shown on the Golden Guardian website:
We have had to make the painful decision that the Golden Guardians
will no longer participate in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS),
after Riot Games’ decision to change the league’s format from ten teams to eight.
Since we joined the LCS in 2018,
Riot Games has been an amazing partner, and we are confident that the sport will see exciting years ahead.
“We want to sincerely thank all of our players,
fans, and staff for their hard work over the past five years.
The Golden Guardians accomplished a lot during this thrilling period
because to the dedication and hard work of our players,
coaches, and staff as well as the amazing support of our supporters.
The team’s LinkedIn account is allegedly no longer active.
All that’s left are the team’s Discord server and YouTube channel. But in one swift motion,
a large portion of the Golden Guardian’s history was removed off the internet.
In order to compete in the 2018 LCS season,
the Golden Guardians were established in November 2017.
However, they were thrust into controversy right away
when coach Choi “Locodoco” Yoon-seop was fired by the Golden State Warriors
in February 2018 for allegedly making “inappropriate remarks towards a
female member of Riot Games’ esports staff.”
The team made significant strides in 2019 by entering several esports,
such as World of Warcraft, Teamfight Tactics, Apex Legends, and Rocket League,
and they have intentions to form a Rocket League team.
They were also a part of the Warriors Gaming Squad in the NBA 2K League.
Only the Super Smash Bros.
players and the LCS team survived the Covid-19 epidemic,
though, since nearly none of these rosters did.
The group consistently finished in the middle of the LCS standings,
with their greatest performance occurring in 2023.
The team surprised a lot of people by earning a trip to MSI by finishing second in the LCS 2023 Spring Playoffs,
after finishing sixth in the regular season.
They accomplished the same thing in the LCS Summer 2023, making it to the LCS Championship.
However, they lost to Team BDS of the LEC to secure a ticket in the Worlds 2023.
The group and Evil Geniuses announced their exit from the LCS at the end of November.
