Kenny Miller thinks that since Ridvan Yilmaz didn’t perform well against St Johnstone, Rangers will want to sign a new left-back in the summer.

On Wednesday, December 20, Rangers easily defeated Borna Barisic 2-0. Yilmaz was added to the squad in lieu of the rested player.

Despite the ease with which the much-changed Gers won against their 10-man opponents,

the Turkey international was a weak link on the left side of defence.

Speaking on BBC Scotland [20 December, 22:05pm], Miller criticised Yilmaz’s display and added:

“I think that will be something that’s addressed in the summer.”

Replacement needed

With Yilmaz’s Ibrox career never really taking off and Borna Barisic’s future looking uncertain,

left-back is certainly an area that needs addressing.

Thankfully for the Gers, St Johnstone offered absolutely nothing – not helped by Diallang Jaiyesimi’s

sending off – and this was therefore a routine victory.

If Yilmaz was to get the nod against tougher opposition, though, he will be badly exposed

on the basis of his performance against the Saints.

Too often, the 22-year-old made the incorrect decision, and the audience frequently expressed their displeasure.

Yilmaz is not helped by the fact that James Tavernier, his teammate on the other wing,

frequently makes a significant difference for the Gers.

Yilmaz will continue to be a respectable backup option in the future. But going forward, Philippe Clement

needs to prioritize having a left-back of the highest caliber.
